Founder & Executive Director

Ned ElAttar is the Founder and Executive Director of the Swedish Observatory for Human Rights Information. He is a Swedish human rights defender and researcher who has spent the past two decades working with individuals and communities pursuing their rights and fighting for justice.

ElAttar founded the Refugees Solidarity Movement, a movement that consolidated and coordinated the efforts of activists concerned with the rights of refugees, during Egypt’s refugee crisis in 2013. In 2014, he co-founded the Swedish Centre for Refugee Solidarity and served as its Executive Director until 2017. CFRS monitored the situation of refugees in the Middle East and North Africa and advocated on their behalf, establishing itself as a focal point for documentation and research on issues related to displacement.

Ned ElAttar is a recognized expert and researcher on Egypt and human rights conditions and issues in the Middle east and North Africa. His work and research focus on the promotion and protection of human rights in nations in transition, conflicts and crises. He has authored several reports and research papers, and both ElAttar and his work have been featured in over 30 newspapers and media outlets around the world, including, the BBC, France 24, SVT, Sveriges Radio, Aljazeera, Global Voices, The Nation, Aftenposten, the Library of Congress, and The New Republic.
