Moataz El Fegiery is a human rights scholar and practitioner with over 20 years of experience in research and advocacy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). He is currently an assistant professor and head of the human rights program at Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. He was the MENA protection coordinator for International Foundation for the protection of Human Rights Defenders (Front Line Defenders), and the deputy director for the MENA region at the international centre for Transitional justice. Moataz is the former executive director for the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) and currently a member of its board of directors. El Fegiery was elected as a member of the executive committee of the EuroMed Rights since 2006 and he is the EuroMed treasurer since 2008. Moataz is also the co-founder and president of the Egyptian Human Right Forum. He obtained his MA and Ph.D. in Law from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
