Egypt: Lawyer arrested during COP27

(Cairo) - On the night of November 7th, Lawyer Ahmed Nazir Elhelw was arrested from his house in Cairo. Mr. Elhelw is a prominent lawyer who works on several human rights cases in Egypt.

A group of Egyptian lawyers announced the arrest of human rights lawyer, Ahmed Nazir Elhelw, from his home in Cairo, after returning from his work. SOHRI sources confirmed that so far Mr. Elhelw’s place of detention and the reason for his arrest is unknown. SOHRI is concerned about the continued prosecution of activists and lawyers in Egypt, despite promises of a political breakthrough by the Egyptian government.
